My modem connects to the internet via coax. It has several output ports for ethernet cables, one of which connects to my docking station. The modem also has wireless capabilities so I can still use the SP3 in the house if removed from the docking station. There is no coax connection on the SP3 nor on the docking station. I'm far from a tech specialist but hopefully answered your question.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Surface Pro 3 has WiFi to connect to your home wireless or where WiFi is offered. It does not have any network ports. Most WiFi routers will connect to cable provider's Internet equipment.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Surface Pro 3 cannot connect directly via coax since it has no specific port for that due to its slim design, however, if I'm not mistaken, I think they might have converters that can plug into the SP3 from which a coax will be compatible with (I'm not entirely certain about this however).
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The surface has a USB port. You would need a Cat 5 to USB or a coax to USB interface to connect directly via wire.
