“I have a desktop with dual monitors. I just put a brand new Samsung smart TV in the same room. I would like to use the tv as an additional monitor from time to time when clients come in. Will this work in that context? The built in mirror stinks!”

It will but I would try to use your display setting on your computer to connect a wireless display first and see if your tv has it built in. Most smart tvs these days do. I have an LG that's about three years old and Windows detects it as a wireless display.
