I’d recommend getting the 12 months of live and one month of game pass as it will give you all the games and allow you to play online for for around $75 rather then buying 12 months of both game pass and live and spending more money. Note - when buying live first and then game pass for 1 month your subscription gets upgraded to xbox live ultimate for free giving you 12 month access to game pass for the price of 1 month.

Xbox Live Gold is a membership which essentially just allows you to play online multiplayer for the games you own. Xbox Game Pass is more like a Netflix-type subscription in that you get access to a large library of games that you can play.
