Q: QuestionIs it possible for me to talk to other radios outside of the T171v3? It seems I can hear other raduo brandss but they can't hear me.
Asked by Overcomer.
- A:Answer Yes, you can talk to other FRS/GMRS radios. If they can't hear you, then they are using a different privacy code than you.

Q: QuestionHow good is signal and range on interior to interior sites?
Asked by raymar.
- A:Answer These radios are going to be the best as far as license free radios. We would need to have a conversation with you about the environment to confirm what radio would make the most sense for you. Please feel free to give us a call at 816-241-8500 between 8:00am - 4:30pm CST Monday - Friday and we will help you out!

Q: Questiondo these float?
Asked by hutch.
- A:Answer Lol!!! Great question! Fortunately these radios do not float so go ahead and throw them at the bottom of any lake, because that’s where these belong. Useless

Q: QuestionHow do they work in the city, for ex: send with grandchildren when they go to the park with brick buildings in between?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer In city environments with obstructions like buildings and brick walls, the performance of any two way radio, will be reduced compared to open areas. Expect the range to be significantly less than the maximum due to these obstructions, personally I wouldn't risk it.

Q: QuestionIs this model better than midland GXT1000vp4 36 mile radio
Asked by Tej.
- A:Answer The X-Talker T71 is an FRS radio and can transmit at 2W maximum. No FCC license is required. The GXT1000 is a GMRS radio and can transmit at 5W maximum so it will have roughly twice the range under equal conditions. An FCC licenses is required to transmit on any GMRS radio. Midland's range ratings are exceedingly optimistic and only possible under very special condition.

Q: QuestionWhy does the midland t 290 6 volts n not 3 volts like other radios
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Having 6 volts rather than 3 volts is likely due to its design requiring more power to support its features and functionalities. Higher voltage can often provide better performance, especially in devices that need to transmit signals over long distances or through obstructions.

Q: QuestionWhat is the typical battery life and distance when used on ch 1-7, then on ch 8-14? If used on CH 1-7, then set to 'L", will it increase battery life BUT decrease communication distance?
Asked by BenR.
- A:Answer Using the radio on channels 1-7 with low power settings will indeed conserve battery life but may reduce the transmission distance, it's a trade off between battery longevity and signal range, and it's useful when you're within a close range but want to keep the radios operating longer.

Q: Questionhow many watts when transmitting
Asked by fred.
- A:Answer Watts are not specified in the product literature (linked provided at end) however the second link seems to indicate these may be a 2 watt radio which I would agree with based on childhood experience with some Radio Shack walkie talkies. We used these to communicate during a caravan of four vehicles on a trip. They worked great and added a lot of fun to the trip. Two of the four cars only had a driver so it felt like you had someone to converse with. I've seen other feedback complaining about the provided rechargeable batteries no lasting. I can tell you all four radios never dropped a bar off full charge in the two day, 8 hour trip. These worked great. http://midlandusa.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/T71VP3-Spec-Sheet.pdf https://www.buytwowayradios.com/blog/2006/07/the_truth_about_range.aspx
