“When I plug the camcorder into my PC with the supplied cable, nothing happens - it does not enter "Mass Storage Mode". Minolta's online support is not helpful. Anyone else have this problem?”

I have not completely learned how to use the camera. You should be capable of transfer pictures and videos, I hope. I read the manual, and it says it should work?
