• No - think old fashion rabbit ears on a tv picking up signals through the airwaves. Plug in tv and it works.

• No, it is an analog device that captures RF signals from the air converts them to an electrical signal which is delivered to the TV Tuner via a coaxial cable. This is a passive device and requires no power source. Some antennas like this one also have a amplifier (which requires a power source) that increases the weak electrical signal so that it is easier for tuners to decode the signal. This particular unit does not have the amplifier.
