You need to move it around until you find a compass direction that picks up the most signals. In some cases some of your local channels may have their over air antennas located in slightly different directions so just move the antenna when necessary.

You need to make sure that your TV is newer than 2009 or that it has an ATSC or digital tuner, connect, run the channel scan and boom! Free TV IF you are in a good location for signals.
