A:Answer My understanding of the connector, which now just stays on our headphones, is that there is a rubber contact that you won't find on other headphones inserted directly. This rubber will provide protection for the seal at the insertion point, whereas metal inserted directly will wear out the seal on the case. I love our case so much that I wouldn't take the chance of breaking the seal or invalidating the LifeProof warranty.
