You can connect directly to your computer with an ethernet cable. However this device is not a router so it only has one port. If you want to connect even one more item you will either need to disconnect the computer or get a router. You can buy refurbished Dlink wireless routers on ebay for about $12 with free shipping, so it can be pretty inexpensive.
