The upload and download maximum speed is the difference. I had 8x4 and the 8 down was topping out at around 80mbps for me. My plan was up to 110mbps down. With the 24x8 your modem has the potential of better speeds. However 24 on the down is WAY over what I'm paying for so I doubt I will really get a fast enough package to take advantage of that. I think it would be 500mbps or more before it would top out. You would likely need near gigabit speed to really push limits of the modem for the download speed.
