I don't have phone or TV service from Comcast, just their 1 gig internet and this is the modem I purchased and use to avoid renting their modem.

A Gateway has (2) features in (1) unit; A cable modem and a router which broadcasts your WiFi signal. This device is simply a cable modem, which means you'll also need to purchase a separate WiFi router to use in conjunction with this device. This device was easily added to my account, via activation online. Then I simply returned the rented Gateway back to comcast and no more rental fees.

They are not going to rent quality products out to millions of people). Just like most people would not put in high end tile or granite countertops in a rental property because renters don’t always take care of things they don’t own. Same principle applies with the cable company. Rent garbage and if it gets broken....no big deal because it was cheap anyway.
