• Yes - it’s “backwards compatible” with slower plans. No issue.

• Yes, this modem will work with speeds up to 1 Gbps. (In theory, it can go faster using port bonding and the three other ethernet ports behind the back label, but I'm not aware of any server offering this kind of speed at this moment.) I'm currently on a Comcast Blast!, which is a 300 Mbps plan, and am getting 355 Mbps down, and 25 Mbps up.
