“Planning on a trip to Turkey I January. Want to buy a cheap but reliable one that would work with the GSM (I think) and thru buying a SYM locally to get by for 4 weeks only. Will this phone work? If not what equivalent one would you recommend?”

Yes The phone will work in Turkey , make sure you buy the unlocked version Safe Trip
