That is exactly what I did after calling and unsuccessfully trying to get the services transferred to this phone. The customer service representatives knew absolutely nothing and instructed me to buy the wrong BYOP kit. Finally, my sibling, who had sat with me through every unsuccessful call and every completely wrong instruction said "Why don't we just take the SIM card out of the phone you've got?" I explained that the "Customer Service Rep" told me that I couldn't do that at which point my family pointed out that they also told me to get the wrong sim card kit. We popped it out, put it in this phone and bam! no prob. Got the same number and everything. Don't bother calling especially if you use Safelink. Just take the sim card out and put it in the new phone.
