It's one of Best Buy weird things. They told me the same thing but gave it to me at the discount price. Then called Verizon (my carrier) and report it lost/stolen. I showed my receipt and Id and still could not get it off the blacklist. It will work on Verizon and ended up putting it in my drawer after I switch carriers.i will never again pay the discount price if they activate it now. Total scam
