I have not seen info about Best Buy editions specially preventing this, like Amazon editions; this is true Android One build from manufacturer. I wonder too since this model says only at Best Buy (how different?). Otherwise Moto X4 (carrier) unlocked are usually rootable & bootloader unlockable. I have not tested.
A:AnswerActivation is with one of the big three, ATT, Sprint or Verizon. I have Straight Talk, had to buy a SIM kit for BYOP (Bring tour own phone). Similar to TracFone. Have to buy an unlocked phone (paying more) but the TracFone (or Straight Talk) will eventually save you money.
