It will clamp to a desk without hole. It comes with a kit for clamping and a hole.

It works with desks with either. I've got it clamped to a desk without a hole.

It comes with both options, you can use the clamp option.

Hello Fox1011, You can use either or. This mount has the option to clamp onto a desk or drill a hole to use the grommet option.
