• It's the basket filter, flat at the bottom, not the cone.

• Yes you can use paper filters. We get the hard plastic reusable ones that are at all the stores. They fit fine.

• The permanent filter is kind of cup shape, flat on the bottom and angles up. Yes, I use paper filters all the time. Get the flat bottom ones.
