The beauty of this product is that it does not have a warming plate. The area where the carafe rests is likely accumulating dripped coffee, water deposits, etc. Try cleaning the area with a one part white vinegar-3 parts water solution. If that doesn’t help and you find that the plastic surface is actually deteriorating, return it.
