Must be an individual machine defect. Return for exchange; this has never happened to myself.

There is a hole in the bottom of the slot for the water reservoir, presumably to allow airflow when draining water during the brewing process. However, that also allows water to escape if the seal isn't tight when the reservoir is placed in the machine while water is in it. This issue didn't manifest until a few weeks after purchase, and I am unable to get a good seal since then. Returning for a replacement.
