This machine has more than enough "memory" to handle school work. Basic web use and office/excel/word... don't need too much memory. If you are referring to the hard drive storage, this should have more than enough for school work. If you find yourself downloading lots of games/videos/uncompressed photos and you do run out of disk space, you could always get an external or even a high capacity micro sd card for less then $50. 

Regarding the Office apps... most computers come with a trial of Microsoft office, but you'll eventually have to pay for it if you want to continue to use it. If you don't want to pay for Office, there are a few free alternatives (google sheets/docs or even Open Office). 

Side note, I bought this machine and am very happy with it :)

Yes the computer has enough memory to store your home work if you are in High School. For College you will need something more powerful like HP or Win tablet with higher storage. If you are / or plan to be a literature major or science major it is better to get a computer with Microsoft Office installed. This will come at a separate yearly subscription price from Microsoft . It is worth having it since you can carry the computer all the years in high school and college. Get a extra storage stick for protection of your work if needed. They are really cheap and good to back-up your work in the event the computer get damaged beyond repair.
