“I am interested in an Apple smartwatch. If I buy the Best Buy $50 membership, can I then try any Apple smart watch for 60 days? Then at the end of the 60 days (or sooner) buy the smartwatch or return it? Or do I have to purchase both, at the start?”

The membership must be purchased before purchasing an item or at the same time for that item to receive the extended 60 day return & exchange window. The 60-day period is not a rental period, it is a return period, so you do need to purchase items before you can take them home. If you then decide you do not like the item within that period, you can return for a refund. If the membership is cancelled after 60 days, you will receive a prorated refund for the membership. Additionally, if looking at cellular Apple Watches, these do not receive the extended 60-day return & exchange window, as activatable devices only have 14-day return & exchange windows.
