The CM-500 is only for DOCSIS 3.X cable internet systems. It requires a coax cable that has signals meeting that standard, which Verizon FIOS doesn't give you. It won't work and so it can't improve your situation. You might consider running a speed test to see if you get the speed that Verizon says you are paying for.
