Yes. The cable from a cable company (such as Comcast) comes into the modem, a cable runs from the modem to a router, and the router broadcasts and wireless or wired signal throughout the house. I have a NETGEAR R6700 Nighthawk AC1750 Dual Band Smart WiFi Router and the combination works great.

Yes. You will need a wireless router you have WiFi. This item will only provide connectivity from the cable internet provider.
