Do not connect this directly to a cable modem that does not have a built-in router! If you connect this to a stand-alone cable modem (with only one port), any additional devices or computers connected to it will be directly exposed to the internet with no firewall protection. In addition, some devices may not function depending on how many IP addresses your ISP will issue.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You would want to connect this to your router to add ports. I guess in theory it might work if your modem is assigning IP addresses (through DHCP), but I would just go the surefire route and connect it to your router.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Depends on your service. I have fiber and the modem has a Ethernet output port, I could have plugged directly into the modem, but since I have a mesh wifi system, I connected my router to the modem, then the switch to the router. Working great for me.
