“I am using a netgear 6100 extender to pull wifi from my basement to my room in the attic. Can I buy a router to hook up to the extender to make the internet faster it's only coming out from the extender at 8 mbs.”

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.When it comes to network speed, "you can only be as fast as your slowest device". You will have to look at all devices in your network. As an example, if you are using the Wifi extender to extend the WiFi the network would be Internet Service Provider (ISP) to Modem/WiFi Router to Extender to your device(laptop, ipad, smart phone, etc...). You will need to check the speed of each device. If the router or WiFi from it, is 8 mbs then that is the fastest you will connect. If the extender is used as an access point mode the network would be from Internet Service Provider (ISP) to Modem/Router to Extender in access point mode (via RJ45 cable) to your device.
