It is not slower. The stated speed of connecting to the router is deceptive. First the internet provider sets the base speed you connect with Say 100mps . That is limited by your router which splits it to Ethernet or WIFI. Ethernet connections on this router are 1000mbps connections. The WI-FI is stated as 1200 MBPS which sounds faster. Doesn't matter if you use wired connection or Wi-Fi , that speed is just how fast the connection is from your device to the router and it doesn't make the connection from the router to the internet any faster. It only makes the connection from your devices to the router faster. Ethernet speeds can be affected if your using Cat5 0r Cat6 cable and the speed of the network card in your device which many desktops are still being built with 10/100 network cards in them. Ethernet speeds are slightly slower because of cable resistance. Fiber optical cable is the only thing that is faster than WIFI due to a enclosed pipe with signals in a pure medium traveling at 186000 miles per second as light. Wi-Fi is affected by things like brick ( iron rich clay absorbs WI-FI signals ) so using a router in one side of a house with internal brick walls will affect the reception. Also the amount of electrical wiring in the area between the router and the laptop / tablet / Smart tv . Finally Wireless devices like cordless phones can affect the signal strength. Wi-Fi coverage works best with a centrally located router , for wider coverage it is always a good idea to consider either chaining another router or getting a range extender. Your never going to get any more speed than what you paying for with your internet provider.
