Yes. You do need a modem to bring the signal. I think it has multiple ports, so two laptop computers should be able to work with it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you use the laptops directly wired to the modem and you don't want wireless then get a network switch and plug it into the internet port of the modem. Then plug the laptops into the switch. You'll need some R45 tipped cables to do this. One for the modem to the network switch and two for plugging the laptops into the switch.

There is a power switch that you can manually turn off when you don't want your PC's to have access to the internet. 2. If you do not have a modem, then you will need one. You place the router between the modem and the rest of the equipment. It will properly route your stuff through only one modem. Happy networking!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.1. You can turn off the wireless in from the routers setup page. As for the modem questions: 2. Yes you will need to have an internet connection to feed into this router, so you will still need your ISP's modem to connect this to. 3. There are some modems that have routers built in which will work for multiple devices, I know Motorola calls their combo units Gateway Routers. I've seen some by Netgear and Motorola/Arris, just be sure to get one that is compatible with your internet provider.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It has 4 ethernet outputs plus a USB output. I haven't gotten my hooked up properly yet. My daughter is leaving for overseas and haven't had time to fiddle with it.
