“My son has a gaming laptop he no longer uses and has Windows 10. He didn't get the wifi install for wifi service as he only used a ethernet connection for his gaming. Will the Netgear (or any wifi adaptor) provide the laptop with wifi capabilities now?”

I believe it will. Following my techie son's advice, I totally disabled my internal (and failing) wifi in order to insure that that the Netgear adapter would work correctly so it makes sense to me that the USB wifi adaptor should be all you need.
