NO this device is not for you. In reading your desire, I suggest you look into a Roku USB adapter or an Amazon Fire Stick. Both connect to your TV's USB port and give you the ability to stream movies. I hope this helps you, good luck.

Check to see if both, your TV and laptop, have an HDMI port. If your TV has an HDMI port, but your laptop only has a usb port, then you can use a USB-to-HDMI adapter on your laptop. Hope this helps.
