“Will this improve the connectivity on an HP8600 printer that is wifi capable, but goes to sleep all the time.? Usually cannot wake up printer and requires rebooting the printer.”

As far as I know, you cannot plug an external NIC into a printer. I suggest, check the "sleep", "Eco", or "Power" settings to prohibit sleep mode thereby eliminating your issue.
