I was told by my I.T. pro that a better position is half way between your router and the point you are trying to reach. I installed mine to help with reception from the cameras in and on my detached garage. It works well. I am pleased. My router is in my downstairs office. The extender is on the first floor, plugged into the wall closest to the garage.
