Your main source of WiFi is going to come from your router. It works best if your router is upstairs. Our house is about 2800+ sq. ft. Our router is upstairs at the south side of our house. We used to get signals even in the downstairs before we got the Extender, but now the signal appears to be stronger. The WiFi from your router works similar to an open umbrella, we were told. The signal goes out and drops to the area below it also. The Extender is best used for extending the range of your router signal to areas where you discover there is no or just a weak signal.
