The system uses a base station, and the base station connects to your local network with the Ethernet cable. The cameras are completely wireless and connect to the base station.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Not only do you need the Ethernet cable running from your wireless router to the Arlo Netgear base station in order to set up the camera, you must leave this cable connected to your wireless router for the camera to work. I called Netgear and this is what they told me. Only the camera is wireless, not the base station. The base station requires an electrical outlet, and to be connected to your wireless router via Ethernet cable. I haven't tried disconnecting the Ethernet cable to be sure, but maybe I will at some point.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I am about to buy it, but this system comes with a base. And that base needs to be plugged into your modem/router so it can get Internet connection. Ethernet cable plugs from base to modem/router. The cameras are completely wireless. This looks like the best option to me.
