• It is not just the modem and router combined that is the problem. It is also how many megabits your service provider gives you .this can make it go slow also. There are some wifi routers that just cannot handle the speeds or just cannot handle too many devices connected to it. This is another reason why it goes slow.

• It could be that your router isn't completely vertical. I had the same problem with bad connection. Once I stabled the router in complete upright position, the problem was fixed.
