Anne -- The Nighthawk works great in my 135 year old home. I have the same type of "real" plaster and lath walls. This unit does a great job.

Netgear Nighthawk N1900 router provides very high speed connections throughout house (can stream 4K) the only reason I added the extender was to provide coverage out into my yard, 2 acres.

I run multiple devices, and there is no problem connectivity is awesome. Just make sure you have good internet speed coming into your home this as well router placement is critical for good signal strength over a wide area.
