This will act as a modem and router, so you don't need another modem. This is a nice upgrade some old modems are not longer supported by Comcast
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you use it, expect a lag in service. I would recommend using this over your older router. A lot of people would likely buy your old router on e-bay. This product you're asking about is the at the top of the line for combination modem/routers. You would have to spend maybe $50 more dollars for the absolute best but this one comes in a close second.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It can take the place of the modem and the router but to specially answer your question, it depends. Will you get wireless or wired coverage where your current Comcast cable modem is? If so, then yes. You can dump the other router. If no, then you have a few options. 1) set the other up in Access Point mode. This basically sets the router DHCP to off and auto configures a few things for you. This will require an Ethernet connection to the new modem/router. 2) You can set it up in bridged mode. This is less desirable but will give you more coverage. AP or Bridge mode setup is specific for each router. Google how to do it with the 6300. Netgear is pretty good about making it easy to do this. I have an r7000 setup as an AP.
