I'm not familiar with Penn Tele Data, but I can tell you that the device works with Frontier DSL (which is hardly state of the art service). I can't say that my wifi is any faster with this device, but it is more stable. With the Frontier-provided gateway, I was having to reset the gateway multiple times a day, especially if we were trying to stream video. I bought the NETGEAR D7000 AC1900 VDSL/ADSL GATEWAY about a month ago and have had to reset it once. For my family, that alone has been worth the price of the device.
