“Do you need to do a plan with the router or is it good out of the box? I’m looking into getting one for gaming pc, and i’m not sure if it’s unlimited data out of the box or if you have to hook it up onto a plan or not.”

You need some type of plan to get data delivered to you. The router just delivers it to your devices

Of course you have to pay for a plan that allows desired speed. A router does nothing but time slice resources for connected devices. routers slow down your data if anything. Routers have a feature called QOS (quality of service). One can set a particular connected device to take priority over other connected devices. Routers really don't have a huge amount of RAM. They are not designed to hold data packets but multiplex data.
