• You will need a modem. Xfimity should provide you one. You set this up in front of the Xfimity modem / gateway. Or like you asked, you could buy one of your own. But yes, this is just a router, not a modem and router.

• Yes you need a modem. Get a high end one to handle the bandwidth this nitehawk can crank out. Awesome power. I can use it almost a football field away from my home
