Awesomely fast and feature full router
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I took one star off for the vertical mounting design failure. It looks like their original model didn't even include holes to mount it to a wall, but mine does so that's appreciated. However, unless I'm overlooking something there doesn't seem to be any way to get the "wings" (antenna surfaces) to stay in place once flipped up. So when you put the router against the wall, they kind of fall forward a bit which doesn't look right nor ideal. So I taped them on place, which is kind of a hokey work around. That all aside, functionally this thing is great. I had to upgrade my router and my cable modem to support my new 400mbps service. My old Nighthawk R7000 should've been able to support it, but a known firmware issue from a few years ago cut its max speed basically in half and netgear never fixed it. I was also starting to have disconnection issues with it, which I suspect was related to the number of IoT etc wireless devices I have. But now, with this wifi 6 support I'm future proof again for a whole and I've noticed the speed difference as well as connectivity stability. The price is high, but other than that one little mounting design flaw I think you pretty much get what you pay for and I'm happy with the purchase.

Best than Orbi rbk50
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was a owner of the Orbi rbk50 that is capable covering 5000 square feet and that's real My house is a 3 store house and it was fully covered even outside my house yard and all around with no problems, the only problem i did see was when i was trying to stream any 1080p movie and worse a 4k movie(I have a 1 Gb from Verizon verified and checked) always was a lag or interruptions and thats bad specially when you are trying to watch a movie with your family, it is really tedious, but all that ends with this Nighthawk x12 and I am waiting for th mesh extender coming out on October 28, 2019 is going to convert this unit in a mesh like the Orbi. This is a warrior's router, strong signal. By itself doesn't cover the area like the Orbi (2 stores downstairs) but in straight line covers the entire house even with walls. No lags , powerful and steady signal.

Works today, not sure about tomorrow though
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Keeping this one really short. Great router. Plug it in, factory reset it, configure it, grab the firmware update, don't use the app. Then go into 192.168.1.1/debug.htm and turn on the dang fan so it doesn't overheat. The fan is supposed to turn on only under heavy load but I had to sleuth it because it was getting hot. The Netgear Forum is really driven by the success of the users, not the mods (unfortunately) and I hope this gets a LOT better once the whole covid hysteria calms down and support people can be support people again. I get the speeds I pay for with this router. I got the speeds I paid for with the RAX 8 but it died less than 24hrs later and I returned it. I did not get the speeds I paid for with the ax50 which is the router I started with because of firmware issues. So 3 routers later climbing up the product line for a 1200sq ft apt I land here and after paying a ridiculous sum of money for connectivity for work and home use (even though the ax50 SHOULD do the job), here I am with an office router in which the fan enablement was behind a debug query. So...this router is amazing today. Don;t know about tomorrow and do not know about later this week. Seems this is where we're going, in that inconsistency is the future. This router therefor is way too much for what I need but it was the only thing in the available product line that worked like it should (except for whole why did they not put the fan toggle in the main menu thing) Looks cool though.

Fast LAN/WiFi, easy config, integrates seamlessly
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This router is incredibly easy to setup with a configuration console that's as shallow or deep as you want. I'm a veteran of Internet connectivity going back to 5600 baud modem days and have configured more devices than I can remember. NetGear continues to be a trustworthy brand that delivers on user friendliness. Pros: ease of use, WiFi is really fast, Gigabit LAN connection is just killing it (gamers pay attention), integrates seamlessly with the newer NetGear gigabit switches (see in picture), deep intuitive console, trusted brand, has a cooling fan for those pulling extreme packets while streaming or gaming (fan noise may be a con for some) Cons: it's big (but cool looking), might make some fan noise, may not have enough WiFi coverage for larger houses Note: This was designed as a single solution for smaller apartments and houses only, and is actually part of a mesh solution for larger homes. Although it can reach the entire structure, my multi-story 3,600 home needs the companion WiFi range extender for full WiFi saturation. However, the upgrade to the wired LAN speed is worth the price of admission alone - just screaming now! Final point: don't pay too much attention to the negative reviews but do give it a few days to run its firmware updates (you can speed this up through the console). After that it should run fine and auto-update your initial firmware and I expect it to be smooth sailing from here on in. Best case ever for a router is you forget its there and your Internet connect just remains stable and transparent. Oh, and for those Star Wars fans out there, it totally looks like Kylo Ren's shuttle!

Great Router with Great Range
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this router when my Asus GT-AC5300 went out. It was about $100 more. When I first logged into the admin panel I was supposed to see it didn’t support the repeater mode like my Asus did. I did have problems also access my ReadyShare hard drive. It just will not connect to the FTP. NETGEAR support called me but the problem remains. They blame it on my gateway from AT&T not being in bridge mode. Overall though I really like this router. It’s very fast. It does run hit though and does have a built in fan which helps with the heat.

Not Enough Range
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this router to replace my Orbi AC3000 mesh system in hopes of getting faster wifi speeds now that I updated to 1gig internet. The AX12 was faster at close range, but I was still only able to get 646mbps vs. 575mbps with the Orbi. That is a solid speed rating but I was hoping to get closer to 800mbps + at this price. I ended up returning it not because of the speed but because of the range. I live in a single level 1900 sq ft ranch home and the router was placed pretty close to the center. I did before/after speed tests to compare the Orbi 2 router mesh vs. the AX12. Close to the router the AX12 had faster speeds, but once moved further away (maybe 20-30 feet) and it had to go through a wall/door or two the loss of speed was significant. For example, I got 412mbps with the Orbi in the master bedroom which is probably about 25 feet from the router and with the AX12 my speed dropped to 35mbps. That is really bad at such a short range away. I ran it 3 times because I couldn't believe the drop but it was real and is the reason I ultimately returned it. I will be sticking with my Orbi AC3000 for now but also be sticking with a mesh setup for my house when I do upgrade.

Nighthawk Your Future Router
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been a fan of Netgear ffor sometime now and they make a solid product. When my daughter wanted to setup a gaming server I needed a router that made it easy to allow port forwarding. I got a lot more with this router and its future proof with WIFI 6. What I didn't know is it comes with Netgear Armor powered by Bit Defender. My Bit Defender Box two was getting long in the tooth but with Armor ( $70 Annual Subscription) I can protect all my PCs and IOTs as well. Pair that with OpenVPN and Open DNS and your on your way to locking your home network down. The router is easy to setup with your phone but advanced features are only available through the web interface. I'm very happy and have no connection issues anywhere in my two story 2300 SF house.

Netgear Everytime !!!!!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the best by far router we have ever owned. It was a great purchase for our upgrade to 1GB internet service. I am not a tech expert, just a tech consumer who is completely satisfied with the setup and performance of this product. It manages ALL our devices with ease and reliability. I especially love the offered internet protection services and the app with it's seamless manageability. I do recommend this product for serious internet speeds and connectivity. I also love that it looks like an ALIEN ship at least to us. COOL FACTOR = 11

Q: QuestionWill this router give you the option to manually connect your devices to 5g or 2.4g or does this router automatically do it without giving you an option to do it yourself?
Asked by NonMillenial.
- A:Answer Yes, you can set them individually, or use Smart Connect to combine them. I use them separately.

Q: QuestionHow many square feet does this modem cover? Netgear's ads say a "large" house, but I have no idea what this means.
Asked by SigR.
- A:Answer It should actually say VERY large house since this is one of the larger more powerful devices on the market as of now. I would say easily handle 3,000+ without issue. Some quick study of wi-fi signal range capabilities on google will point out some wavelengths are far faster than others but unfortunately they have a harder time with obstructions than the slower bandwidth capabilities of older slower rated versions. A perfect example of this is that 5G can sometimes be considerably slower than 2.4G for distant locations with more obstructions. The biggest thing to understand is the varying wavelengths and wi-fi spectrum's ability to mitigate the structures walls, doors, wall ducts, plumbing, wiring and other physical signal obstructions. Every house is obviously different in layout and the router location and mounting position alone can have a very large impact on dead or weakened zones. Centralized higher mount locations are usually almost always best to equalize signal strength throughout the entire structure. This particular unit is on sale right now and IMO, is much more appealing because of the current -$100 off pricing. And although there are other routers that can best it's peak speeds on occasion, and especially in certain less congested environments, it's ability to handle busy "smart device" and heavy streaming households are far above previous gen routers because of the newest OFDMA features. Whenever you purchase and whatever you spend though, early adopters always pay a premium to be ahead of the curve. Hope that helps.

Q: QuestionDoes this work with Frontier? Thank you
Asked by Mack.
- A:Answer Hi Mack, This router works with any modem. Just make sure what kind of technology is offered from Frontier. I believe they use cable so you will need to buy a Cable modem and you will be ready to connect this router to your Modem. Remember this Netgear AX-12 is just a Router not a Modem/Router. You can enjoy the real full experience of the WiFi 6 is you have devices with WiFi 6, other than that you will only have the speed offered for the oldest technologies. Is a great router, stable and easy to use. Great signal and capable to perform up to 8 devices on 4K streaming at the same time without buffering. Your ISP speed is really important. I think Frontier only offers speeds up to 45Mbps, not enough for smooth 4K streaming. Anyrouter will hesitate with speeds under 300Mbps for the today's demands Good luck

Q: QuestionHow many devices can be connected at once?
Asked by HousemusicPro.
- A:Answer Put it this way, I have 44 devices that work great with the old Netgear Nighthawk R8500. And this new RAX120 supports way more than that.
Answered by mxpxboy
Q: QuestionI see the RAX200 has tri-band and this one doesn't. Is that really needed?
Asked by Dapinc7.
- A:Answer There is a good article here then you just think about your application you're bringing a router in for https://dongknows.com/dual-band-vs-tri-band-wi-fi-routers-explained/
