“I need to get wifi upstairs and at the opposite end of my house from where my netgear R6300 dual band router is situated. I have Cox cable. Will this allow me to put upstairs and get wifi in an area that cannot get a wifi connection for gaming?”

It may not allow you to get a full strength wifi signal the full distance you are looking for, but it may allow you to run a Cat 5e or Cat 6 cable the remaining distance. Hardwired connections are the best for gaming, when you need a dedicated signal throughput use a cable, if you can.
