You can set it up to do it automatically or manually. Being cautious, I would not set it up for automatic updates as you never know what is in an update and how it may affect your environment. You could end up breaking your previously functioning environment. All updates entail a degree of risk. Make a habit of logging into the admin interface periodically, and checking manually for updates. If there is one available, you can find out from the Netgear website regarding any details of what the update is doing. Also check with their blogs. Once satisfied that the update is benign, and that it is applicable to your environment, you can click the update button and the router will apply the update and reboot itself. Note - some updates may provide device support for devices you don’t have, in which case there may be no benefit to the update. All updates entail risk. Any update that addresses security should be applied as soon as possible.
