“I have AT&T Uverse system with a separate wireless access point attached - will this router work with my system - and do I just plug the router into the AT&T Uverse box? Any other suggestions on whether this can be used with the AT&T Uverse system.”

It sounds like your AT&T Uverse box was setup as a router if so you can have AT&T switch it remotely to bridge mode and you can use the Netgear Nighthawk Wireless Router by plugging it in and connecting the AT&T Uverse modem to it and you then can configure your WiFi connection.
