Obstacles generally will affect performance. If you want the best performance (speed and bandwidth) possible, the router and satellite should be placed in the open. This system is so good though, that you may find “acceptable” performance by placing the router on the shelf.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Mine is located on a shelf in our closet where the main router is, as they have to connect to each other by CAT cable. And it works great. SO I would think you would be fine. Just make sure its close to your internet provider router box.
