You still need a modem/gateway from your internet provider. So, yes, you will still need to have an internet subscription with a service provider. The modem/gateway does not have to be wireless as this will provide your wireless connection. Modem/Gateway is essentially what brings the internet into your home from the wired connection provided by your internet provider (AT&T, Comcast, etc...) Wireless Router (this product) will distribute your connection through 'wireless' signals

This will give you better coverage and speeds for your wireless devices in your home, but the connection outside your home to the rest of the world is what you pay your ISP a monthly fee for.
