I would recommend using only the AX6000. It is the latest in design and technology, using the WiFi 6. I am using the router upstairs in a 2-story, 2800 sq ft. house. The satellite is downstairs. I have fiber cable with the Gigabit package, and am getting 800-900 Mbps DOWNSTAIRS! My old router and extender was only getting <40 Mbps. I don't think you will be able to experience full benefit if you mix old and new technology. Hope that helps.

No, they do not have backward compatibility. I gifted my old system to my son so they would not become paperweights.
