What modem would work best with the AX6000 system? null

You will want a modem that is Docsis 3.1 certified to handle faster speeds. I would probably go with the Netgear CM1100 or the CM1200 which would be more than enough to handle the new orbi 6.

You most definitely need a docsis 3.0+, gig speed modem. Anything other than that and you're wasting your money.
