Sorry this will be kinda long but im giving you everything I researched when I bought the AX6000 The difference is the ability to future proof your home with the AX6000 as it can attain gigabit internet speeds(if your internet service provider(ISP) offers that). For the AX6000 you can get (1000 Mbs 2.4 GHz + 2400 Mbs 5 GHz) compared to (600 Mbs 2.4 GHz + 1200 Mbs 5 GHz) Also the you number of ethernet connections you get with the AX6000 is higher by like 3 more ports 1 extra on the router and 2 more on the satellites. Check your current ISP package if they offer gigabit internet (realistically its 940 mb/s) you’ll want to use what you’re paying for and if you have alot of people in your household go with the AX 6000 because your speed will suffer if you are all on at one time. If you dont have Gigabit internet with your ISP save the $200+ (i say ‘+‘ because usually you will have to upgrade your modem to a docsis 3.1 to get gigabit internet) and get the AX4200 Lastly If you dont have alot of people in your house and you are just looking to just eliminate dead zones in your house maybe even look up nighthawk mesh system(I believe its less than $200). Its the cheapest wifi 6 mesh system it doesnt provide the fastest speeds but will get you better mire reliable connection throughout since its a mesh.

The AX6000 has a couple of additional ethernet ports but the real difference is the antennas for 5GHZ, which is what most devices connect to. The AX6000 has a 4x4 antenna setup and the AX4200 has a 2x2. Whether you will benefit from that depends on the devices you have and how many of them you have. Larger, more expensive devices may have 4x4 receivers that can take advantage of the extra antennas simultaneously and get really fast speeds, but most devices like phones, tablets, TV’s etc. are 2x2 or even 1x1. So, the main benefit comes in with the more devices you have. With twice as many antennas, the AX6000 can more easily handle more devices. Bottom line, if you have just a few connected devices, you will see zero difference between the two. If you have a lot of people in your household or like 40 devices in your house trying to connect, the AX4200 would still work fine, but the AX6000 would provide a noticeable performance boost.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Biggest difference will be bandwidth. AX6000 = theoretical 6000Mbps (2.4Ghz (1,200Mbps) + 5Ghz (2,400Mbps) + 5Ghz backhaul (2,400Mbps)). AX4200 = theoretical 4,200Mbps (2.4Ghz (600Mbps) + 5Ghz (1,200Mbps) + 5Ghz backhaul (2,400Mbps)). The backhaul radio is a dedicated band that connects the two Orbi devices wirelessly and shouldn't be considered in the bandwidth equation but "advertising"... So realistically AX6000 theoretical max bandwidth is 3,600Mbps with the AX4200's is 1,800Mbps.
