Correct. The router will use a 5GHz dedicated band for the backhaul to/from the satellites, and the satellites need only be physically connected to power at their locations. The ethernet ports on the satellites can be used for locally attached wired devices and are bridged to the wireless network.

You can place the satellites anywhere, as long as they're in range of the router. I have my router in the middle of the house and a satellite on each end and it's a 2700 sq. ft home with stucco exterior, and I have great signal, including outside. But I would advise on using a CAT6, or at least a CAT5e cable if you have anything higher than 100MB Internet service.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The satellites do not require a wired network connection. The main unit can connect to the satellites via wired or wireless backhaul to extend the network.
